In the winter of 1825 the Dekabrist-square was the centre of an attempted coup against the zar-rule.
In the winter og 1997 street-musicians are standing in front of the statue of Peter The Great. They are playing the Beatles song "Can't buy me love" to newly weds who often visit the square.
