The winners of the Lomographic World League - which Mads posted news about a few days ago - have been announced right here. Nice Lomo-work :) But what is it with this Lomo-hype? See, I've been reading about it for a few days now, and the opinions really differ. Personally, I think the pictures look pretty cool, but on the other hand I have to agree with some of the critics: Am I an artist just because I use a Lomo-camera, or isn't it really a celebration of the aesthetics of "bad pictures"? It seems that the Lomo is viewed as a particulary "authentic" way of capturing moments, but couldn't I create the same "retro-style" stuff by putting my Canon EOS out of focus and using cheap color film?
There's something about the Lomo's shutter-speed that might make is special, namely that is sometimes stays open for several minutes to capture lots of ambient light (as far as I have read). But I don't know about that.
And surely, one could point out that the size of the Lomo makes it more "wearable" than my EOS - thus making it easier to "live my life" through the lens of the Lomo. But doesn't any other point-and-shoot camera possess the same capabilities size-wise? What do you think?

I must say that I find this site really annoying. But Dirk Lambrechts' photography is really good so it is worth a look anyway.
